From the WMDC Press and Communications Office RESPECTING YOUR ELDERSTo mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Wakefield Social Services held an information day at Pontefract General Infirmary yesterday (June 14). More than 50 people visited the event and said they felt better informed of how to report suspected abuse of older people. Wakefield Social Services dealt with almost 300 cases of abuse of older people last year and has an excellent record of working with the Police, NHS and Commission for Social Care Inspection. Visitors to the event received information and saw a specially designed poster which will be on show in many public buildings. Corporate Director of Family Services Elaine McHale said: "We take any suggestion that an older person might be at risk of abuse very seriously and treat them as high priority responding with experienced, qualified staff." If you feel that a member of your family or a neighbour may be at risk contact Social Care Direct on 0845 850 3503. Ref:
