SADDLE UP FOR BIKE WEEK

There are cycling events throughout the district next week to celebrate bike week.

On Saturday June 17 events start with a fun afternoon for all the family at pedal power bike gala at the Bandstand, Thornes Park, Wakefield from noon. There will be an opportunity for people of all ages to try out different bikes, ranging from the conventional to the weird and wacky in the world of pedal-powered machines, plus a number of free cycling and road safety giveaways throughout the day.

The Father's Day Ride is on Sunday June 18 at the Visitors' Centre, Anglers Country Park, Wintersett. The ride starts at 1pm and is an off-road, scenic and leisurely ride for all kids, dads and grandads. Everyone is welcome.

On Tuesday June 20 the Have a Go ride is held at Pontefract Park (starting from the car park near the lake) at 6.30pm. It will be a mainly off-road, leisurely ride for anyone who is a bit rusty with their bike skills or beginners. The ride will last for about one hour and is between five and eight miles.

There is an On Yer Bike Treasure Hunt on Saturday June 24 where groups of riders can explore the park, collecting clues and picking up treasure with the possibility of winning a prize. The treasure hunt starts at the Rhubarb Sculpture at Thornes Park, Wakefield at 1pm.
