FLYING THE FLAG FOR WAKEFIELD IN BLOOM

Colourful new banners are helping to fly the flag for Wakefield in Bloom.

Visitors to the city will have noticed the banners and flags that have gone up on lampposts and flagpoles promoting the Wakefield Council driven festival.

Councillor Phil Dobson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "With the flags and banners in place Wakefield has made a great start to the Wakefield in Bloom initiative.

"I am now very much looking forward to seeing the hanging baskets and floral displays which will be installed in early June, and would encourage local businesses to support the project. They could do this by adding their own hanging baskets outside their businesses or, if this isn't possible, by placing a flower arrangement in their windows."

Pauline Foster, Service Director Urban Centres Management and Economic Development, said: "We are delighted with the design of the banners and flags which incorporates the heart of the Yorkshire Rose in a vibrant and contemporary way. When the hanging baskets are in place next month these street dressings will work with them to really enhance the appearance of the city."

UCMED is also launching a competition for businesses across the district supporting WiB through floral displays. For further information please contact Emily Todd at UCMED on 01924 304950.
