WAKEFIELD ART GALLERY
AMATEUR ARTIST EXHIBITION
"Inspired" a
celebration of amateur art from the Wakefield District. Saturday 8th April
to Sunday 7th May 2006. Wakefield Art Gallery, Wentworth Terrace,
Wakefield, WF1 3QW
Over
60 local amateur artists will feature in a new exhibition opening at
Wakefield Art Gallery on Saturday 8th April.
The
"Inspired" exhibition is a real celebration of the calibre of
amateur artists that come from all over the Wakefield District. The
youngest artist is 16 and the oldest is in their 80's and between them all
they have produced an astounding range of work.
Nino
Vella, Keeper of Art at Wakefield Art Gallery, said, "Wakefield Art
Gallery has a long tradition of displaying the best of local amateur art
by displaying the work of members of the various art clubs and societies
in the District. This year we decided to change the format and make the
exhibition open to individuals, we are delighted that many new artists
have approached us to show their work. They have also brought in many
fresh perspectives including the use of unusual materials and modern
digital technology".
With
over 80 works of art included in the exhibition ranging from portraits,
landscapes, still life, ceramics and sculpture, there is something to suit
all tastes. Many of the exhibits are for sale at reasonable prices.
The
exhibition runs until Sunday 7th May 2005. Admission is free. The gallery
is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Sunday 2.00 p.m. to
4.30 p.m., closed on Mondays. We regret there is no ramped access to the
gallery.
