DRIVER TRAINING SAFETY COURSE IN ITS 12th YEAR
28 FEBRUARY 2006

A Pontefract man has been thanked for his work with young drivers by Wakefield Council.

Brian Chappell set up a young driver training course in 1994 to encourage road safety.

Sue Wilson, from the Council's Travel Awareness Team, said: "Brian's course has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 years. The Council has always tried to support Brian and we would like to extend a special thank you to him for giving up his free time delivering the course. He deserves recognition for his efforts and his utter dedication into educating young drivers."

There is a similar Young Driver Course, run by the Travel Awareness Team, which covers practical training and theory test. It is run in partnership with the Police, WYMAS and the Driving Standards Agency.

Jane Stark, Travel Awareness Secondary Education Officer, is currently running courses at Minsthorpe Community College, St Wilfred's Catholic High School, Ossett Technology College, Hemsworth Arts and Community College, Wakefield College and Silcoates School.
