CASTLEFORD FORUM
NEW LIBRARY AND MUSEUM
A
drop-in event where the public can learn more about the £11 million
Castleford Forum is to be held next week.
Wakefield
Council is working with the Castleford Heritage Trust and Friends of
Castleford Library to create the Castleford Forum - a new library and
museum six times the size of the existing one.
It
will be built on Carlton Street, in the centre of the town, as a
multi-storey building rising behind the old library building and
overhanging the old market hall. The project will retain the façade and
historic parts of the old library and market hall.
Gordon
Watson, Project Director The Castleford Forum, said: "The Castleford
Forum will replace the current inadequate library and museum facilities
and improve the services for local citizens. It is a key part of the
social and economic regeneration of Castleford, which we expect to attract
both investment and visitors to the town.
"We
hope as many people as possible will take this opportunity to find out
more about what is happening in their area."
The
event will include the chance to look at the model of the building and
outline plans and to meet members of the project team, including the
project architect from Niall McLaughlin Architects. It will take place on
Monday April 3 from 2.30 - 4pm at 2 Sagar Street, a former shop unit
refurbished as part of the Castleford Project as a venue for public events
and consultation.
The
Castleford Forum will provide state-of-the-art library facilities, a
museum telling the story of Castleford and include items of major
historical significance, a local studies resource area, exhibition space,
a café and shop and a flagship Contact Wakefield information point.
