SCHOOL HOLIDAY CHOICE

People across the Wakefield district are being asked for their views on school holiday dates for the 2007-2008 academic year.

There are four options available they can be seen on the School Holiday Dates pages in Related Links on the right hand side. Anyone without internet access can view them on computers at any of the district's libraries.

Cllr Wayne Jenkins, Cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: "School staff, governors and unions are being consulted but we especially want to hear from as many parents as possible about the arrangements that would suit them best.

"Term dates are not set in stone and it is the council's aim to meet the needs of both pupils and parents as study and work patterns become more flexible."

The council is particularly keen to hear parents' views about continuing the two week spring bank holiday break for primary schools but only one week for secondaries, with primary schools breaking up a week later than secondaries at the end of the summer term.

To express a view you can reply online or pick up a response form from your local school or library (please note that schools are closed from April 11 to 21 for the Easter holidays).

Alternatively, contact School Governor Services at County Hall, Wakefield WF1 2QL. Tel 01924 305379. Further information is available from Claire Thomas of School Governor Services on 01924 305379.

The closing date for responses is Friday April 28.
