THE K SISTERS COT
ADDED 20 JULY 2006

The
above photograph shows a plaque currently displayed on the ‘archive
wall’ at Pontefract General Infirmary.
There
have been several mentions of the K Sisters in previous issues of the
Digest and I thought you might be interested in one more.
I am sure that the cot ‘endowed in perpetuity’ has long since gone but
thankfully the plaque has survived and I hope this knowledge will give
some pleasure to Marjorie and Pamela.
I
wonder what would be today’s equivalent of £500, a not insignificant
sum in 1945?

According to the Retail Price Index, the £500.00 secured by Marjorie and
Pam with the support of the public in 1945 was the equivalent of a
staggering £14,372.81 in 2005. Not only is that a significant achievement on
behalf of Marjorie and Pam it also confirms the generosity of Knottingley
people as we have learned in various accounts throughout the publication
of the Digest magazines and indeed on the Knottingley website. Michael
