Mr.
Ron Gosney's Response
It took some
sorting out of this Thompson family and it simply boils down to her being
Mary or Mary Ann Thompson!
On the 3rd March 1845 at St. Giles, Pontefract, William Thompson a Mariner
son of John a Gardener
married Ann Perfect daughter of Joseph a Gardener. William was baptised
28th July 1811. They had four children Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah and William
before William the father was buried 22nd April 1855 aged 43. Mary Ann
shows as Mary in the baptism register being baptised on the 7th October
1849.
On the 1851 Census at Racca Green we have: Joseph Perfect 58 a widower and
Gardener; Ann Thompson daughter married 33 a Mariners wife; Elizabeth
Thompson G/daughter 4; Mary Thompson G/daughter 1.
On the 1861 Census at Albert Cottages, Canal Side: Anne Thompson 44 a
widow and Mangle House Keeper; Mary 11, Sarah 9 and William 5.
On the 1871 Census at Albert Cottages, Canal Side: Anne Thompson 43? a
widow; William Thompson 15.
The 1881 Census at Racca Green shows: Ann Thompson 62 a widow and
housekeeper; William
25 a Glassblower; Florence Barker 3 a G/daughter.
Daniel Barker married Mary Ann Thompson on 28 March 1874 at Christ Church.
If she had indicated her that her father William was deceased it would
have been more accurate.
This shows there is no direct connection with the Ben Thompson family, but
for some reason I have it in my mind that probably all the Thompson's were
related going back to 17/18th century, but although I have tried in past
to sort them out I had to give it up as bad job.
