Ron Gosney's Response

Hello Keith

There is a bit of information I can tell you regarding the Miller family but without involving detailed research I can only go from the local Parish records that I have transcribed.

Firstly, there appears to be another child of Johnson/Mary Ann not on your list. The 1901 census shows another daughter, Emily, aged 10 years and born in Leeds, so the family appear to have moved around with the glass trade. However, they were in Knottingley at the time of the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census returns.

The 1881 census states Johnson was born in Billingham, Durham; the 1891 states South Shields and the 1901 says Durham Town not known. In each of these censuses Mary Ann is shown as Newcastle.

Robert Johnson Miller, born in Hunslet about 1870, was buried in Knottingley cemetery on 26th July 1887, aged 17 years. His younger brother James Johnson Miller, born around 1872 in Hunslet, married at Christ Church, Knottingley, on 16th May 1903, to Minnie Johnson and both Alexander and Ethel were witnesses at this marriage. There appears to be one son, James William, born 23rd April 1904 and baptised 17th July 1904.

Minnie died and was buried 23rd March 1905, aged 30 years, in the same grave as her brother-in-law, Robert Johnson Miller.

At 34 years of age, on 9th September 1906, Ja,es Miller married again at St. Botolph's Church, Knottingley, to Ann Shay, a 42-year-old widow and daughter of William Pogmore, a deceased publican.

I hope this is of some help to you and if you have any questions then don't hesitate to contact me further.

Kindest Regards
Ron Gosney
