TAYLOR FAMILY HISTORY
9 OCTOBER 2005

I would be interested to discover the connection between the Bay Horse Inn, Hill Top, Knottingley, and the Taylor family. My 3x great grandfather was Joseph Taylor, born c.1829, who was recorded on both the 1861 and 1881 census as Inn Keeper / Licensed Victualler at the Bay Horse

In 1871, Joseph was living on Hill Top, occupation Limeburner. A William Taylor was the Inn Keeper on the 1841 and 1851 census and also recorded in Slater's Directory of 1847 at the Bay Horse too, but I have yet to connect the two Taylor families together.

As I understand, Joseph Taylor, c1829, was the son of John and Jane Taylor, baptised 11 October 1829 at St. Botolph's, but I have not been able to find much on John and Jane Taylor apart from John's occupation at the time of Joseph's baptism as a labourer. Joseph married Catherine Fell, daughter of John Fell and mary (nee Askew) at St. Giles Church, Pontefract, in 1849 and went on to have a fairly large family. Their daughter, Mary Jane Taylor, married my 2x great grandfather Brian Tate, who was a farmer in Whitley.
