Rifleman Ernest Ellerington
War Graves Certificate
By the death in France of Rifleman Ernest Ellerington of the K. R. R's.
(Lewis gun Section) Knottingley has lost another brave young man. He
was in his 27th year and there is one more added to the number of soldiers
widows in that town.
The
deceased was formerly a clerk at Messr's Bagley and Co works. He
enlisted in May 1916, went to France the following August and last
September was invalided to England because of wounds. Having
recovered he had leave and returned to France in March last and was
wounded in the big fighting, admitted to hospital, and succumbed therein
on May the 11th. Besides the widow he leaves one child,a girl.
The chaplain writing the widow says the deceased was badly injured but did
not suffer much pain. He realised his condition and sent his love to
his wife etc.
The
writer adds he was such a fine character, faced death so bravely and gave
all he had - his life. The widow has lost no fewer than three
brothers within the twelve months and a fourth is in hospital wounded.
