THE DEATH IN ACTION OF PRIVATE WRIGHT
Writing
a most sympathetic letter to Mrs. Wright, of Gillan Street, Knottingley,
in reference to the death of her late husband, Private H. Wilkinson
says;
"Accept
my deepest sympathy, also that of my comrades. It was a sad blow to us
when we heard of your noble husbands death. He and I were such good
chums that next to yourself, perhaps, I feel his loss as much as
anyone. He often used to speak to me about his dear wife and
children and blame himself for ever leaving them and what he would do when
he got back home again. But it was not to be. In the trenches he has
often set an example to his comrades by his coolness and 'daring' under
fire and he won for himself the high respect of all ranks."
"Your loss is ours also. You lose a noble and loving husband, I a good
and trustful chum, and the nation a brave soldier. May God give you help
and comfort in your trouble."
