PRIVATE FRED HEALD

Private Fred Heald War Graves Certificate
Through
a letter sent from France by Sergeant Onions, Mr. and Mrs. Jas Heald of
Aire Street, Knottingley, have been informed that their son, Private Fred Heald,
K.O.Y.L.I. was killed in France on August 31st. In June the parents
were officially warned that he was reported missing as from April 13th.
Since that date no messages had been received from him and his parents
have been awaiting news. He was 29 years of age and was the second
son of Mr. and Mrs. Heald.
He
joined up in October 1914 and went to France in March 1916. Although he
had been abroad for 2 years he had not been wounded or sick. His
last leave home was about six months ago. In pre-war days he was a
miner at the Prince of Wales Colliery whilst he was an active member of
the Salvation Army at Knottingley and was a cornet player in the
band. There is much sympathy with the bereaved.
