Wartime Memories: Local Heroes

PRIVATE ARTHUR ELLERINGTON

We have the pleasure of recording the fact that Private Arthur Ellerington who was reported missing feared dead, is now reported to be probably a prisoner of war, an officer writes the mother of Ellerington giving some details of how he was lost sight of etc. He says: -

"Your son was quite unhurt to my knowledge and the men confirm my statement that he was not wounded when they saw him last."

He urged the mother to be hopeful and adds: -

"Your son was well liked throughout the whole Company by both officers and men and by those in authority.  He was looked upon as a reliable man.  He stood facing the enemy and never flinched from doing his duty although we had a hard fight and I am glad to say a successful one.  You may be proud of your son and I sincerely hope that when you receive this letter you anxiety will have been relieved by a letter from Germany."

The writer offers to do anything more that he can do for the family.
