GALA
STAY AT HOME SCHEME
The
Knottingley 'Stay at Home' scheme holidays began on Saturday when a gala
was held in the Playing Fields. A procession headed by the
Knottingley Silver Prize Band toured the town and when it reached the
field the Holiday Queen, Miss Peggy Lowther, was crowned by the Countess
of Rosse.
Everyone
seemed to enter into the holiday spirit and the side shows did good
business. A baby show was judged by Cr J. Blackburn of Pontefract
and Mrs. Gillbank of Brotherton, and the fancy dress competition by Mrs.
Gillbanks and Mrs. Gillbanks Snr.
The day ended
with a well attended dance in the Town Hall. The 'Stay at home'
holidays continue until August 27th and various efforts have been arranged
including a horticultural show.
