Wartime Memories

HOPE

by KATHLEEN HAIGH

The Night is cold, still and full of silence
The way is muddy and wet
The day that has passed full of violence,
Despair, loss of pals and yet,
These brave souls carry on with one thought in mind,
To bring peace, unity and love to all mankind
Braving the hell of a foreign land
Reaching out for a warm friendly hand
Dreaming of loved ones over the seas
Send thoughts and messages on the breeze
Thoughts that help them to carry on the fight
Hoping that victory hoves into sight
Praying to God up above
To keep safe those at home who we love
When this war is over and peace comes again
Let the Almighty make it remain
A place we can live in so all was not in vain
