It is intended to introduce a traffic calming scheme on Pontefract Road, Knottingley, in order to reduce accidents and vehicular speeds on the road.

There have been 27 personal injury accidents in the last five years including two involving pedestrians.

Based on this information it is recommended that traffic calming features consisting of a speed activated warning sign and appropriate road marking features be incorporated into the scheme. Renewed and additional signs and markings are to included at the Pontefract Road / Headlands Lane junction, and at the Pontefract Road / A162 Slip Road / Spurrier’s Avenue junction.

The locations where the various features are to be used have been carefully identified in terms of having the maximum effect in reducing vehicular speeds but causing minimal disturbance to residents of Pontefract Road.
