BETTER
QUALITY OF POLICE SERVICE FOR RESIDENTS
|
|||||
Residents in the Wakefield District can now look forward to a better quality of service thanks to a new appointments system. When a non-emergency incident is reported to police which requires a police visit, there is now a dedicated team of officers to attend the incidents at a pre- agreed time.
Chief Inspector Mark Mulcahy (Operations) who is responsible for the project said: "The problem was previously that officers would be sent to routine calls and were often diverted to an emergency call, causing an unfortunate delay in attending the initial routine incident. We have an excellent record for attending immediate and urgent calls quickly but needed to deliver improvements in our response to some routine policing matters."
Under the new system, they make early contact with the caller and agree to attend at a time convenient to them, and they can be reassured that the officer will attend because they won't be diverted away to an emergency call.
They are aiming to provide a significantly improved response to people about routine policing matters. They now have staff whose sole job it is to attend incidents by appointment. Currently they are attending over 100 appointments each week, which is a huge improvement on previous figures.
The message to members of the public also is that they don't need to do anything different when they report an incident ? call 999 where there is danger to life, a crime in progress or a road traffic collision with injuries. For all non-emergency matters, the 0845 6060606 number should be used."
