FLUE GAS DESULPHURISATION
Ref: July 2006-04

FGD stands for Flue Gas Desulphurisation and is being fitted to two of the four units at Ferrybridge Power Station.

The latest liaison Committee was held on 14th June.

There will be a bunded area put in place purely for screening from the nearby residential areas, access to the site will be via Kirkhaw Lane and wheel washers will be provided.

The Plasterboard Factory Planning application has now been submitted and is waiting to be determined.

The proposal to erect Traffic lights on the A162 to allow southbound traffic from Ferrybridge to travel south without first going north is being worked on, a recent meeting of interested parties was held by John Grogan MP, this was mainly about the A162 as it passes through Brotherton and Fairburn but it was attended by representatives of Wakefield MDC.

Lafarge the plasterboard factory operators have commissioned an outline design of what the traffic lights and the junction would look like along with a feasibility study a safety case and costs.

No decision has yet been made and Council Highway engineers are looking at the safety aspects as the A162 will still be a four lane carriageway at that point and still a fast road, although it is likely the speed limit will be reduced, it is however a preferable option to traffic travelling through Ferrybridge Square.
