All
three local councillor’s have been concerned and have received
complaints about the gradual erosion of limestone walls within Knottingley
over the last few years and we have asked the council what we can do to
prevent further damage to limestone walls occurring.
The
planning department has said "The limestone walls are a
characteristic of Knottingley which it would clearly be desirable to
maintain. In order to achieve this we can:
a)
Resist demolition when they are part of a scheme that needs planning
permission.
b)
Consider an ‘Article 4 Direction’ that would require consent for walls
to be demolished. This does however require a significant piece of work to
be done by the Planning Section and would need Secretary of State
approval. This would have to be built into a work programme."
The
protection of our limestone walls is something we will continue to pursue.
