A
small group of photographs depicting vehicles supplied by South Yorkshire Motors
to the proprietors of Kings Mills, Knottingley during, I would guess, the
1950's. At the time in their brown and cream livery , they were as familiar
to the local populace as the green and cream of the West Riding buses or the red
and maroon of B&S and the dark and light blue and cream of South
Yorkshire. The signage on these vehicles was not, as today, done by transfers,
but by painters in the paint workshop, all by hand. Some of the letterwork in
those days , especially on the buses was done in actual Gold Leaf!
I think the driver at the wheel of the Thames 4D above, is Mr. Pat Donovan, one
of the people who operated Kings Mills along with his brother Mr. Dennis
Donovan.
