Although
I had a passing interest in photography some years ago, it is only since
creating the Knottingley and Ferrybridge Online web site that I have taken
the act of capturing photographic images more seriously. It is all too
easy to disregard the importance of creating a photographic record of our
surroundings, the appearance of which seems to change on a regular basis. Back in my early days, I used a 35mm Olympus
OM1 single lens reflex camera which required both the focus and exposure
to be set or adjusted manually. I then obtained a Kodak DC3400
digital camera which gave results of sufficiently high quality for web based
display and also allowed me to process the images and have them online in a
very short period of time. I now find myself constantly on the
look out for scenes to photograph and never venture far without a camera
for fear of missing that special shot.
My
latest acquisition is a Minolta Dimage 7i digital camera which offers the
operational flexibilty of an SLR with the ease and convenience of digital
imaging. It gives results very close to those obtained from
traditional film media although not quite able to reproduce the variations
in exposure within a scene that traditional film media is capable
of.
