Ferrybridge Community Centre
An integral
part of community life in the village for almost thirty years, Ferrybridge
Community Centre was opened in 1972.
It was in
1969 that a group of local people began a collection with the aim of
constructing a community centre and together with funding from the local
council, Ferrybridge Community Centre, together with a similar centre on
Warwick Estate, were duly opened. Although the centre on Warwick
Estate has since been demolished, the Ferrybridge centre continues to
provide a venue for a varied selection of activities throughout each
month.

Recent years
have seen improvements made to the building and despite constant problems
from the flat roof and from the building itself being the target of
vandalism, the members of the centre have managed to sustain it in
remarkably good condition.
Last year,
the centre's management committee took on the long and difficult procedure
of applying for Lottery funding to cover major improvement work including
an extension to accommodate a stage area. With the help of Wakefield
Metropolitan District Council Regeneration Department, they now have some
plans put forward and are awaiting cost figures.
As previously
mentioned, the centre caters for a variety of events and interests and we
list below the current schedule together with the person responsible for
each group.
